Jordan
Jordan
2008
Jordan is a nice mix of religious, ancient and natural sites.
We picked you the hire car straight from the airport and off onto the crazy roads. At every junction say there are three lanes about six lanes of car pull up, then as the cars pull away it is back to three lanes; work that one out. Anyway is down to Mount Nebu have a looksey at the promised land and continue on to Karak.
We stayed at value guest house run by an nice Jordanian. The next morning checked out the crusader castle. There was a museum there that illustrated the History of Palestine oddly completely missing the 8th and 9th century BC. It seems what happened in these two centuries has been erased from history probably just after 1948...
Back on the road we headed towards the highlight of our trip... Petra. First though it was a hotel. It was another nice Jordanian who recommend our hotel “Up the hill just next to the mosque” he said, “Ah good” we said. The next morning was Eid Al Adha. What followed was three hours of a nice Jordanian in the mosque giving all that he had and then some more on the mega phone from 4.00 to 7.00am and the we remembered “next to the mosque”! We spent two days at Petra and it was enchanting. First is the treasury the classic shot and after that the whole site spreads out. We went up to the monastery, the pace of high sacrifice and just all over, and if you fancy a ride on a donkey this is heaven!
After roaming all over Petra and the mosque alarm clock we thought a chill out was in order. So it was the Dana nature reserve two hole days of nothing but a beautiful village on the edge of large silent gorge. A nice Jordanian taught us how to count ten in Arabic and cook so fine local fayre.
The day was back to mania. Down to the dead sea. A quick dip, yes you do float, and on wards to Bethany Beyond Jordan. After parking the car, buying ticket, going on a nice Jordanian’s bus, getting off a nice Jordanian’s bus, walking a while we reach the river Jordan right opposite Israel as shown by a very white flag. One member of our group jumped and I assume is born again but there was no John the Baptist so I do not know if it counts!
After it was back to the airport and fly out. Jordan is nice and full of nice Jordanians go and see it!
