Wavy Wavy Dibba Rock
Wavy Wavy Dibba Rock
2012
The week before this trip a lot of debate was had on whether we should attempt this by snorkelling or kayaking out to the rock, what would the current be like, and other such matters. We settled on two people kayaking (as we only had two kayaks!) and one person snorkeling and turns would be taken kakaying.
Well due to a sweet bit of rally driving by the valet at our hotel the kayaks were very much out of action. When collecting our car the valet managed to smash the kayaks off the top of our car and they took the roof bars in the process. Hearing the noise we sprinted across to the seen. We arrived to meet a stunned valet and many small pieces of our car spread across the car park!
After that excitement the next thing we new was that we were on the beach facing Dibba Rock. It did not look too far but what the... currents... distance... and seemingly many other irrelevant things...
We set off. It started well. It continued ok. Then about half way across we found ourselves in a washing machine! The waves were coming in from our right and we were swimming at a 45 degree angle to them. All this meant that were up and down, up and down all the rest of the way to the rock.
When we made it and for the UAE we were very impressed. We had a look around and there were sights to behold; lots of coral and fiiiissh. It was just there was just a deep feeling in all our stomachs. It was the left overs from the washing machine. Mike and I felt the most need to bring up breakfast, however it was the ILPH that showed off breakfast not once but twice right into her snorkel!
Almost immediately we knew the washing machine got the better of us and so we all dashed out back to shore. We shall return... but just when there is a little less of a swell.
